Meetings at Labour Conference earlier this week


Jane Slowey, CEO The Foyer Federation, update on Sheerness Foyer and possibilities of a link into the Academy now that the school leaving age has increased to 17


Paul Braithwaite, Gen Sec Equitable Members Action Group, re local meeting scheduled for 17th Oct at 6pm (press welcome) - I have also sent information down on the speaker they are providing.


Mike Nicholson, Director Undergraduate Admissions, Oxford University - a visit is planned by him to see our local schools; I am taking two students aged 15 and 16 from Fulston Manor to see him tomorrow and to show them the University; we need more students from the patch to think about Oxford, Cambridge and Imperial.  


Tom Madders of Sense for deaf/blind people - about free bus passes for Carers an unintentional consequence of the new free bus passes is that carers who assist blind/deaf people now longer receive a free bus pass if under 60 (they did before....) Am going to help them start a national campaign..............


Nigel Calvin of the Open University - asked them how they help us develop a higher education arm to the Isle of Sheppey Academy


Clova Fyfe, BT - she has agreed to bring a BT engineer to a meeting of Iwade residents who are suffering with poor broadband reception and then they will go across to Borden Primary School to do the same there


Hilary Evans, Age Concern - to help us assess whether we can re-open the Age Concern in Queenborough.
